Book Review - LK Advani autobiography "My Country, My Life"

Lal Krishna Advani is an important leader of the BJP. In fact, after Vajpayee is the best known face of the BJP Indian political horizon. Advani lasted eight decades of Indian politics. From this point of view alone, his autobiography "My Country, My Life 'a significant contribution.

The book is comprehensive, covering his life from his time Advani in Karachi before independence to 21 Century. This is a huge canvas and Advani spent much time on itthe facts as he sees them. Few Indian politicians of considerable stature wrote an autobiography, with the exception of Nehru. Advani must be completed for this step.

Advani book is interesting reading as it provides an overview of the thinking process of the Hindu social and party political options for the start of the political morality of the Jan Sangh LEDs. This party then transformed into the BJP. The first part of the book, especially, itsPeriod in Karachi and the impact of RSS on it makes interesting reading. He expressed his disappointment with the Congress Party for the perceived failure to prevent partition and commends the work of the RSS in the difficult days of 1947 when India flames with riots between Hindus and Muslims was. Advani also discussed the bomb plot of 1947 in Karachi, where some leaders have been involved Sindhi Hindu.

Advani to clarify its equation of Gandhi. He brings up the fact that heall due respect to the leader, but his analysis of Nehru and Indira Gandhi are revealing. Criticized them.

The book distributed over a thousand pages, had worked at least 200 pages and related content would not have lost. After reading his book one can appreciate the brand of nationalism Advani. His interpretation of the ruling Shah Bano and his Ram Rath Yatra and the Ram temple in Ayodhya, which led to the downfall of the government, VP Singh are interestingthey reflect the views of Advani and the BJP Hindu party which is (Bharat Janta Party).

Advani, however, throughout his long association with the RSS (GOM Swayam Sevak Sangh) and the Hindu revivalist BJP party and the former Jan Sangh should come as a secularist. Nowhere in the book Advani seems to be something other than a nationalist. Penning was when this book is a possibility that the Indian Prime Minister, which would be with some parts that were written in MayView. But this is not the merit of the book, not diminish. The reading gives you an overview in the mind of one of the great Hindu leader of the BJP today.

Advani was deputy prime minister in the BJP government led by Vajpayee. His friendship with Vajpayee will be clear where the mentor of Vajpayee and Advani was the follower. However, Advani fly over his role in the liberation of the wanted terrorist Masood Azar, after the abduction of Air Indialine of aircraft. Slides in Greater This would add value.

Moreover, no personal intimate details of personal life is Adjani. The autobiography is not the political will, but should be comprehensive, including personal life. This gap is not addressed in the book.

But the book is worth reading if only for the work of the Spirit of him who asked not to be the king. Advani defeat at the hustings by the substance of the book, not diminish.

In this brilliantly illuminating group portrait of the men who came to be known as the Founding Fathers, the incomparable Gordon Wood has written a book that seriously asks, "What made these men great?"—and shows us, among many other things, just how much character did in fact matter. The life of each—Washington, Adams, Jefferson, Franklin, Hamilton, Madison, Paine—is presented individually as well as collectively, but the thread that binds these portraits together is the idea of character as a lived reality. They were members of the first generation in history that was self-consciously self-made—men who understood that the arc of lives, as of nations, is one of moral progress.

An uncommon light - M. S. Law - Capitol of Procrasti.
Gordon Wood reveals the founders in an uncommon light, attempting to show them as they were, rather than as these monolithic, semi-mythic creations. He does well, and the writing is engaging. My favorite sections were on George Washington and Benjamin Franklin. Certainly worth reading.

Shattered Dreams - M. Reynard - Montana

Having already read "His Favorite Wife" I was much surprised to find out that this book was written by a sister-wife of "His Favorite Wife"'s author. Eagerly, I set into it to find a different perspective of the same family. And like the others, I found it immensely heart breaking.

Irene starts the tale of her life as a small girl growing up in a polygamous family. Coming from four generations of polygamy, the doctrines are all she knows of life. When her mother leaves her father and becomes married to an abusive man, she escapes to her Aunt's polygamous family and in doing so meets the charming Verlan LeBaron. While she has a love at home, but sadly only one that would turn into monogamous for he and give her no hope of being "exalted" she turns to him thinking it would be better for her future.

In a secret wedding, she becomes his second wife. Only then does she realize the heartache she's gotten herself into. She has to compete with his first and to her mind, favorite wife who is also her half sister. Throughout the years she has thirteen children with Verlan and also sees the addition of 8 more wives to his family. Each one breaks her heart and she wants some time with him. Throughout these years she is forced to move a number of times and must make do with many hardships and living in poverty.

Surprisingly there's not much in there about her sister-wife Susan who was the author of the aforementioned book but Irene does say that she thought of her fondly and held no grievances towards her. It was interesting to see the difference between the two books because in Susan's book she made Irene out to be happy and cheerful and loving, while in this book it was clearly shown that she was always miserable. Irene had a sense of humor though and to my opinion that had to have helped keep her going despite everything.

Such a sad book but it was nice to see that she was finally able to leave and found love and someone who deserved her. I was shocked to find out how large her family has grown. With thirteen children she now has 118 grandchildren and 37 great grandchildren. That's a whole lot of family!

After reading so much about polygamous families and thier lives I find it so unbelievable that more is not done to help those that want out. I know there are several groups that have been formed but it seems like in Utah, Mexico, and other areas that there is not much accountability for the despair these people live. Hopefully as more books like these come out there will be more women who are able to escape this life.

Having wrote the book herself, I would have to say Irene did a marvelous job. She tells her story clearly and concisely and even manages to put a bit of humor in such a sad story. I strongly recommend reading this book just for the value of learning.

The brightest Jewel - A Family Love Story by Mariam Henley

Be aware cartoons Mrs. Henley, I could not wait to open my advanced reading copy of "The brightest jewel." For those who do with comics This is a story with a complex plot, which is shown in cartoon form. It has a beginning and an end and is mature readers.

The graphics memory is a powerful look of a woman's emotional experience with international adoption. Also chronicles how the process affected their relationships with familyand friends, especially his father.

Henley allows the reader an honest look in his personal life without pulling punches - not an easy thing to do. I have heard with their own fears, always angry with the red tape and endless waiting. But I'm also happy when they brought home their beautiful new son. , Tells the reader how we were old friends. I felt like I knew her.

Henley is a compelling storyteller and a talented artist. I was hooked on the first page. L 'Story, is sentimental without heartbreaking, funny and witty, without noise. The drawings are the backbone of the book effectively convey the substance of the story.

And it's an exciting story on many levels. I particularly liked the graphic tribute to his father. In the month of October 1944 was a 24 year old Marine lieutenant. The letter he wrote home that killed his three best friends, as I had a shell bursting into tears.

But rest assured, all is not sad.dry humor through Henley. It 'difficult to convey the visual jokes, but being a cat person has been my preferred design of the representation of the merger of two family cats - four cats placed in a mixer.

I read the story in one sitting, and I know I will again assume for a second reading. E 'on sale in September, his 15th, and I recommend it.

The most dazzling gem, a family Love Story

In her midforties and settled into the responsibilities and routines of adulthood, Dani Shapiro found herself with more questions than answers. Was this all life was—a hodgepodge of errands, dinner dates, e-mails, meetings, to-do lists? What did it all mean?

Having grown up in a deeply religious and traditional family, Shapiro had no personal sense of faith, despite repeated attempts to create a connection to something greater. Feeling as if she was plunging headlong into what Carl Jung termed "the afternoon of life," she wrestled with self-doubt and a searing disquietude that would awaken her in the middle of the night. Set adrift by loss—her father's early death; the life-threatening illness of her infant son; her troubled relationship with her mother—she had become edgy and uncertain. At the heart of this anxiety, she realized, was a challenge: What did she believe? Spurred on by the big questions her young son began to raise, Shapiro embarked upon a surprisingly joyful quest to find meaning in a constantly changing world. The result is Devotion: a literary excavation to the core of a life.

In this spiritual detective story, Shapiro explores the varieties of experience she has pursued—from the rituals of her black hat Orthodox Jewish relatives to yoga shalas and meditation retreats. A reckoning of the choices she has made and the knowledge she has gained, Devotion is the story of a woman whose search for meaning ultimately leads her home. Her journey is at once poignant and funny, intensely personal—and completely universal.
