Book Review, "Dreams from My Father"

"Dreams from My Father" is a moving story about the early years of President Obama. It focuses on his race and heritage. It 's the journey of a young man trying to discover themselves in their roots. Along the way there are friends and challenges to stimulate him. "Dreams from My Father" is an elegant and engaging reading.

Composed in 1996, showed Barack Obama roots, their findings, and left an impression on him. The book begins with Obama as a young boy living in Hawaii withhis mother and his parents. He has to say no memories of his father, only stories that his mother and grandparents. Obama comes from a mixed heritage - a white mother and black father, who lives in Kenya. His mother is open-minded, idealistic, in a sense that the world as naive in another. His grandparents love him unconditionally. As a boy, his mother married a man from Indonesia and go to live there. Obama speaks lovingly of his stepfather and learned many life lessons from him,But unfortunately, his mother, his relationship with his step-father did not last. His mother send him back to Hawaii to live with his grandparents so he can attend a prestigious school in Hawaii. Soon, his mother and sister back to Hawaii, but he stays with his grandparents gave him a sense of permanence. He learns the strengths and weaknesses of his grandfather, but never really come to him as the father figure who is trying to see.

Obama has an encounter with his father when he was ten yearsin Hawaii. Obama is a bit 'in awe, a little' overwhelmed. His father is not a long visit and leave Obama with more questions than answers.

The book then goes on to cover the life of Obama as a community organizer in Chicago. It 'hard work that is rarely rewarded, but Obama, we are all his. Then a relative calling from Kenya to say to him, his father died, but Obama is not quite sure how you feel or how they react. A few weeks later, he made his Kenyan half-sister Auma,Contact with him. Auma gives you an idea of his father's life in Kenya. Auma Obama is going through and want to know more about his father's fascinated. Before he can go to community organizing at Harvard Law School, has provisions for visiting Auma in Kenya.

In Kenya, Obama has found a family that did not know. His father had at least four women, and Obama has a lot of brothers and sisters living in the shadow of his father. Auma Obama, and the visit with one of theirWives of his grandfather, "Grandma." He says that Obama's father and grandfather stories to him. There is a compelling story of two people, and that aspect of Obama helps himself and his heritage, sought to define.

"Dreams from My Father" is a gripping read. Detail, at times, the personal stories of Obama are warming the heart and easy to connect with readers. The book calls the "courage" behind a man - and a president.

  1. Obama a great story teller. Such a lucid and compelling naration which is realistic, untainted and has not been padded with any self agrandizing picture

    A great work before he he was what he is now.
